Cookie Policy
Hi there! 👋 I use cookies on this website to make your visit smoother, more personal, and to see how people enjoy the site. This page explains what cookies are, which ones I use, why, and how you can manage or disable them.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are tiny text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember certain information about your visit — like your language preference or whether you've already seen a notice — so every visit can feel just right.
This site also uses localStorage (a similar browser technology) to save your preferences locally. This data is never sent to my servers.
2. Cookies I use
Essential cookies — always on
These are strictly necessary for the website to function. They don't need your consent and can't be switched off. They include session and security cookies set by WordPress and Solid Security Basic.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
wordpress_logged_in_* |
WordPress | Keeps the admin session authenticated. Only set for logged-in users — never for regular visitors. | Session |
wp-settings-* |
WordPress | Stores admin interface preferences. Only for logged-in users. | 1 year |
itsec_fingerprint |
Solid Security Basic | Device fingerprint to detect suspicious login activity and protect against brute force attacks. | Session |
av-cookie-consent |
This site | Stores your cookie consent choice so the banner doesn't reappear on every visit. | 1 year |
Performance cookies — require consent
These help me understand how visitors interact with the site so I can improve it. All data is anonymous and aggregated. They are only activated if you click Accept All or enable them in Customize Settings.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors. Used to count how many people visit the site. | 2 years |
_ga_XXXXXXXXXX |
Google Analytics 4 | Maintains session state for GA4 (specific to the Measurement ID). | 2 years |
Analytics are managed via Google Analytics 4 using the plugin Site Kit by Google. IP addresses are anonymised. Google may transfer data to servers in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Google's Privacy Policy →
Functional cookies — require consent
These remember your choices and settings for a more personal experience.
| Key | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
av-lang |
localStorage | Saves your language preference (EN / ES) so the site loads in your chosen language on your next visit. | Persistent |
| Accessibility settings (OneTap) | localStorage | Saves your choices in the accessibility widget (contrast, text size, etc.) so they apply on your next visit. | Persistent |
Advertising / Targeting cookies
These are used to show content and ads you might actually care about — like personalised recommendations. I don't currently use advertising cookies on this site. The option is available in the consent panel in case they are activated in the future.
3. Plugins on this site and their cookies
- AccelerateWP — Speeds up the website with caching and optimisation. Does not set tracking cookies for visitors.
- Accessibility Widget by OneTap — Provides the accessibility toolbar. Stores your accessibility preferences locally in your browser (see the functional table above).
- Advanced Custom Fields — Used to manage custom content fields. Does not set cookies for visitors.
- BackWPup — Creates automated backups of the website. Does not interact with visitors in any way and sets no cookies.
- Contact Form 7 — Powers the contact forms. Does not set tracking cookies. It processes the personal data you submit (name, email, message) — see the Privacy Policy for details.
- Imunify Security — Provides malware scanning, firewall and intrusion detection. May set ephemeral server-side session tokens for firewall purposes — these are not accessible to end users.
- Site Kit by Google — Manages Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console. Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) are only set with your consent, using Google Consent Mode v2.
- Solid Security Basic — Protects against brute force attacks and security threats. May set a session cookie (itsec_fingerprint) to track device fingerprints for login protection.
- WP Mail SMTP — Delivers the contact form emails reliably through my hosting provider's mail server. Does not set cookies for visitors.
- Yoast SEO — Handles SEO metadata, XML sitemaps and structured data. The free version does not set cookies for visitors.
4. Your choices
You can adjust or disable cookies at any time — some features might not work as expected if you do. Here's how:
- Change your consent on this site: clear this website's data in your browser settings (cookies and site data) and reload — the cookie banner will reappear and you can choose again.
- Browser settings: you can block or delete cookies directly from your browser.
- Opt out of Google Analytics: install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Updates to this policy
I may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies I use or in applicable law. I recommend checking back periodically. The date at the top indicates when it was last updated.
